Pink Lady and crew on their way

On their way

Today, at 12.46 PM Newfoundland time (4.16 PM UK time), the crew of Pink Lady® Atlantic First left St John’s, Newfoundland to start one of the most exciting journeys in ocean rowing history.

Bob Barnsley reports that just outside St John's the boat was shadowed by whales. The team were last seen rowing strongly on a course of about 90 degrees trying to get well offshore in daylight before turning SE.

Good luck guys and Gods speed.

Pink Lady due to leave Wednesday

Pink Lady in Prosser harbour

At 0930 Canadian time (1300 UK time) on Wednesday 30 June 2004, the crew of the Pink Lady® Atlantic First is set to leave St John's, Newfoundland, to start one of the most exciting journeys in ocean rowing history.

Pink Lady® skipper Mark Stubbs believes the first 350 miles will be the hardest, and who would argue with him. There are four times as many icebergs in the ocean near St John's, some them equivalent to the size of a small village. Add to this having to row across southwestery winds, negotiating the stormy Grand Banks and the shallow fishing grounds off Newfoundland, the crew will need to be alert.

Pink Lady hits the water in St Johns

Pink Lady lifed off the Transporter

The Pink Lady rowing boat (named after her sponsor, Pink Lady® apples) was put on the water today, 24th June 2004, at St John's harbour and is in the little fishing basin at Prosser's Rock, on the opposite side of the inlet from St John's itself.

The boat looks superb and ready for a voyage of a lifetime!
