From one of Jon's condom collection winners.
There are two kinds of people: those who don't do what they
want to do, so they write down in a diary about what they
haven't done, and those who haven't time to write about it
because they're out doing it.- Richard Flournoy and Lewis
R. Foster
Some very few people manage both !
Keep up those rhythmic strokes, it's going to be a hell of
a climax.

Hi guys. I live in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. I
read about your record breaking attempt in the Sunday Hearld
(the paper out of Halifax, N.S.). Living on an island we love
the water. We love to swim and play in it in the summer, freeze
it and skate on it in the winter, (I coach hockey). We are
following your progres on our PC. I would like to say "good
luck", have a safe trip, and as we would say, "keep
your stick on the ice". But it would be more fitting
to say, "keep your oars in the water". Have a safe
one!!!! P.S. Doing any fishing?

You're all either completely mad or excedingly courageous

grand banks was only maginally worse than in SW12 this week
must be a comfort.

your expedition has really grabbed my attention and imagination.
I've always had a yearning for endurance trials (aside from
bringing up kids) and having had an old fashioned navigator
for a father (dining room table always covered with charts
and plotting) I'm wondering what to do with the rest of my
life. I need to find what is inside myself after all the dross
is washed away. You guys are certainly having a good opportunity
to do that. God's speed ....I'll be watching along the way
and if progress is astonishingly fast ...may make it to Falmouth
to see you land. Otherwise will be away with kids (fun but
also soul-searching) Hope the wind is behind you! Claire xxxx

now?
In St. Philips it is sunny and warm with light winds. It
is 7:02 PM-NST on Thur. July 8-04.
How are the back muscles? What do you do when you are not
rowing? Sleep I imagine. What else?

You guys are crazy!!!! Ya got more guts than a codfish to
battle the North Atlantic In such a small vessel. I worked
for 10 years on a offshore research vessel and know what the
sea conditions can get like out there on the Grand Banks.
This time of the year isn't so bad The weather is fairly calm.
I know you are well prepared and I wish you the best of luck.
So keep the keel beneath you and the sky up. Must be awful
trying to get a nap in that little thing rolling all over
the place. A little tip is to use whatevers handy and wedge
yourself in the bunk. We used to use our lifejacket and an
extra pillow to wedge ourselves in the bunk. The plus is your
lifejacket is alway close.Remember one hand for yourself and
one hand for the ship. Happy rowing mates!

Has been really windy around here too - Jane and I had a

bow began to bury that she need to move around to balance
the boat, I can't she said 'I'm terrified'... next moment
she did move and went around behind me and landed on the tiller
bar shrieking as she went. We are looking after the boat honest!!

Hello Pink Lady,
I watched you row out of St. John's harbour this afternoon
and ironically The Sir Bedivere which was in port also left
just after you. Sir Bedivere was one of King Arthur's strongest
knights as his name in Welsh means " of mighty sinew".
He threw Excalibur into the lake and saw a hand rise out of
the waves to catch it.
I hope that you will see nothing like that as you make your
way across the Atlantic and all of our best wishes go with
you all. Fair rowing and may you all be "of mighty sinew."
God speed.

Great to get the update today. Seems like you may run into

When you say you are on a course of 170 what does that number
refer to?
How's the food? Can you cook aboard or do you use packets

Weather in St. John's is grey and overcast, 12C, winds SE
10-15 kph.
All the best.
